Fountain Hills Community Information

The 11,000 acres that make up the town of Fountain Hills were once part of one of Arizona's largest cattle ranches. The city was founded as a master planned community in 1970 and incorporated as a town in 1989. The developer consulted with one of Disneyland's designers to help create this family-oriented community that is now home to more than 20,000 residents. The town's largest employer is the school district. Fountain Hills hosts a number of annual events including Fountain Hills Great Fair and the Fountain Hills Festival of Arts and Crafts.

The natural Sonoran Desert and local lakes provide for a wide range of outdoor recreational activities including hiking, biking, boating, championship golf, tennis and mountain climbing. Saguaro Lake is the closest man-made lake to Fountain Hills. It is surrounded by towering cliffs and offers a full-service marina with water skiing, fishing and swimming areas. A favorite pastime on a hot summer day is an inner tube ride down the Verde or Salt River, just southeast of Fountain Hills. Fort McDowell Adventures offer the experience of the Old West with cattle drives, overnight horseback rides and private rodeo shows.

For variety, Fountain Hills is also located close to well-known shopping areas, restaurants and art venues. The Fountain Hills Community Theater offers quality productions year-round. Other popular attractions are the Fort McDowell Casino and the Out of Africa Wildlife Park.

Recently Fountain Hills was listed as one of "50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" by the book of the same name. No longer a secret, the town with magnificent views, quality education and affordable housing has become a vacation mecca and a great choice for permanent residence.

Today, Fountain Hills has a diverse population of families, retired seniors and young workers looking for a quality, small-town lifestyle. It has been found in this community of majestic mountain peaks, native desert flora and the famous fountain on the shaded Avenue of the Fountains Boulevard.
